The Rox Hobart | Penthouse
A crisp spring afternoon, it was forecast to be a balmy November day, we pull up at The Rox Hobart on Elizabeth Street. Stepping out of our Uber, we immediately cast our eyes upon a uniquely curved building, looking almost out of place within Hobart’s older established midtown setting. Something you might expect to find in Sydney’s eclectic Barangaroo development or in a trendy Melbourne suburb.
We knew we were about to experience a whole new generation of Hobart’s emerging personality.
IS IT POSSIBLE WE FOUND TASMANIA'S FINEST PENTHOUSE?
Upon entering the penthouse, we first encounter a long hallway that leads to the heart of the residence – a large sun-filled open plan living area, with a superbly equipped kitchen, dining area and access to the huge outdoor terrace. First impressions made us field only one question.
Why didn’t we book a longer stay?
Evoking a truly modern feel, The Rox Penthouse captures a panoramic vista of Hobart city from the sophistication of a contemporary interior. The design allows for a range of everyday experiences, forming a stage set for entertaining small gatherings of guests, or just luxuriating in a daily ritual of selfcare or lazy weekend movie nights. Each space hosts captivating details and textures that elevate the whole experience to another level of sensory enjoyment. .
To appreciate it all… to experience everything the Rox Penthouse has to offer, we felt a minimum of three nights would be required to take it all in.
Large sliding doors open the living and kitchen space out to a huge private deck, ideal for alfresco dining, framed by the city backdrop. The building’s unique bagged finish exterior complements the sheer curtains and together the soft hues cast a gentle tone across the residence as the filtered light shifts throughout the day.
Boasting a close and personal view of Hobart’s CBD, this penthouse is a clever design of spatial planning, interior architecture, furniture procurement, all brought together to create a luxurious penthouse experience.
Furniture has been sourced from local producers, adding to the authentic charm of Hobart’ eclectic mix of ingenuity and boldness. We personally fell in love with the white wool texture bouclé accent chairs. Dually positioned as a prominent feature of the living space they provide the perfect cozy seat to enjoy one’s favourite book. Just don’t sit on one and spill that glass of Tassie red wine please!
A fully equipped kitchen with butler’s pantry provides ample opportunity to stay in and test your cooking skills. Breakfast can be accomplished with a Häfele oven, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, and high-end Nespresso capsule machine, producing flawlessly aromatic coffee to start your day.
However, if you feel like heading out on the town, it is literally right at your fingertips. Positioned on Hobart’s trendy Elizabeth Street, the shortest of walks will have you at coffee shops, restaurants, boutique shopping outlets and Hobart’s famous Elizabeth Mall. Head straight downstairs for a wicked dining experience at Japanese inspired Omotenashi (with prior booking arrangements essential).
And if you’re feeling especially adventurous, speak with the hosts about getting a seat at the table of Institut Polaire, Tasmania’s coolest locale down by the harbour.
A product of its owners’ love of creating beautiful spaces, and as a retreat from career and obligations, this home is unapologetically opulent. The Rox Penthouse is an experience to be remembered, and we have assured ourselves to visit once again when the longing & craving become too much to bear.
